On the same road as Domino’s is Swinton Town Hall and Salford Civic Centre. This stunning Art Deco centrepiece, opened in 1938, was the result of a national competition won by Welsh architects Sir Percy Thomas and Ernest Prestwich. The building with its 38m clock tower is remarkably similar in design to the Swansea Guildhall, which they completed in 1934. Architecture on the other end of the scale is found at 15th century Wardley Hall, home of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Salford. The skull of Blessed Ambrose Barlow is kept in a small nook at the top of the stairs. He was a priest who was hung, drawn and quartered for his faith in 1641.
