Portsmouth City’s dry dock is famous for housing one of the country’s oldest and best-known naval vessels, HMS Victory. Built between 1759 and 1765, this was one of only ten ships built at the time. She sits as a museum ship and attracts around 350,000 visitors a year. Her most famous captain Lord Horatio Nelson who took her to the Battle of Trafalgar. HMS Victory not only stands as a memorial to Nelson but also as a symbol of the strength of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic era. She is one of the oldest ships still under comission by the Navy and one of the most loved.
