Teddington, situated between Hampton Wick and Twickenham, is perhaps most notable for its famous Lock. At 200m long and located at the highest point of the River Thames, it actually consists of three locks: a conventional launch, large barge and small skiff lock. Construction first started on the lock in 1810 and it was rebuilt in 1854 because of the lower sill left by the removal of Old London Bridge. Teddington also has many notable residents, both old and new: Benny Hill once lived here, as did Julian Clary and Oliver Reed.
