Greenwich is most famous for its Maritime Museum and as the location of the Greenwich meridian. In the 15th century it became the site of the Royal Palace of Placentia, the birthplace of many of the House of Tudor, and in the 17th century it was something of a holiday resort. Nearby is the iconic O2 building, in the old Millennium Dome, and Greenwich Millennium Village. It is also the resting place for the 18th century Cutty Sark clipper ship once used as a merchant vessel trading for tea. Next to the town is Greenwich Park, a 17th century Royal Park, containing both the Queen’s House, designed for the wife of King James I, and the old Royal Observatory.
