Clapham is situated in the borough of Lambeth. Although once considered a rather unremarkable suburb, it is now considered to be one of the more trendy areas of London because of its easy access to The City and the expansive common. The name Clapham is thought to originate from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning ‘homestead’ and a settlement here certainly dated back to Anglo-Saxon times. Clapham has also had its fair share of famous residents. Diarist Samuel Pepys spent his last few years living here and Graham Greene also lived here during his life. More recently internationally famous author J K Rowling started writing the Harry Potter series at her flat in Clapham Junction.
