Briton Ferry is a Welsh town and community in the county of Neath Port Talbot. It sits on the mouth of the River Neath, at the entrance to Swansea Bay. Many factories sprung up in the town at the time of the Industrial Revolution including steel works, spelter works (for zinc) and tinplate works, which were built near the river and the new South Wales Railway. In the 1850’s, Briton Ferry Floating Dock Company built docks, which had a unique design by Sir Marc Brunel, father of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and was used to scrap several warships after World War II.
