Bridgwater is a Somerset market town between the Mendip Range and the Quantock Hills. Through the middle of the town runs the River Parrett over which is an iron bridge. It is thought that the town was originally called 'Brigg' and that the name evolved from there. Others say that the name comes form the 'Bridge of Walter', after Walter Douai, a Norman prince who lived here. Here is the 16th Century Sydenham Manor, which is said to have a very persistent and predictable ghost. Admiral Robert Blake was born here and the museum is named after him.
