With a population of just 10,000, Waterlooville was originally known as 'Wait Lane' and consisted of only a handful of cottages. Legend has it that Wellington's soldiers stopped for refreshment at the local pub on their return journey from Waterloo; the pub’s name was changed to ‘Heroes of Waterloo’ and consequently the village became known as Waterlooville. The town also boasts ‘The Bear Museum’ containing one of the world's first collections of teddy bears. You might also enjoy a tour of the local Gales Brewery. Perhaps the most celebrated citizens of Waterlooville are the local amateur football team who had the cheek to take the lead against Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup 2007/8 before gallantly losing 5-2.
