The local New Art Gallery in Walsall, Staffordshire, opened in January 2000 and was designed by Caruso St John and has won several awards for architecture. The gallery exhibits both classic and new work having housed such artists as Epstein, Freud, Degas, Turner, the Chapman Brothers, Tracey Emin and Phil Books. Walsall’s football club, The Saddlers, is the town’s pride and joy while the town also hosts successful cricket, rugby and hockey clubs. Famous people connected to the town include musicians Boy George and Noddy Holder, and actresses Meera Syal and Sue Nicholls.
