Paignton is a coastal town in Devon which forms part of Torbay, the ‘English Riveria’. Paignton dates back to Celtic times when it was known as ‘Paega’s Tower’. Up until the 19th century the town was called ‘Paington’ and it wasn’t until a new harbour was built that it gained the new spelling. Traditionally Paignton was a fishing village. In more recent times it has been used as a location for film and TV including ‘Monty Python’. Whilst filming, the team stayed in the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay, which later became the inspiration for ‘Fawlty Towers’.
