The Suffolk market town of Mildenhall is situated just north-west of Bury St. Edmunds and is host to RAF Mildenhall, home to the 100th Air Refueling Wing and 352nd Special Operations Group of the United States Air Force. The town is also famous for the discovery of the Mildenhall Treasure, now on display at the British Museum. The treasure is made up of several Roman silver objects discovered in the area. The local museum contains a large amount of information on the treasure’s discovery, which was the subject of Roald Dahl’s short story “The Mildenhall Treasure”.
