Barming is a tranquil civil in Kent just to the west of Maidstone. To the south is the River Medway. Traditionally Barming was divided into two, Barming and Little Barming. Little Barming had its own church until the 16th Century and is mentioned as a separate place in the Doomsday book. The remaining church was built in the Norman period in the 12th century. Although the church is a Grade II listed building there are some items in the graveyard that have achieved a Grade I status including German bench ends dating from the 13th century. Amongst some of the oldest buildings are the Cuthbert Cottages, on North Street, parts of which date back to the 14th century.
