Even though Littleover is now a large, thriving suburb of Derby, it still retains its charm and you can see its origins as a pleasant village even to this day. Burton Road, the main street, is an ancient Roman route and was once part of the cross-country Icknield Street. When the Saxons arrived they named the area ‘little hill’ (whereas Mickleover means ‘large hill’). Today there’s a busy and bustling community with a range of shops and services, among them the Half Moon and White Swan pubs, and the lovely ancient St. Peter’s Church. Famous locals, of course, are Kelli Young of Liberty X who went to Derby High School and Lee Camp, a goalkeeper with a great future.
