Many people know Hall Green for the dog racing stadium but there is a lot more to the area than first meets the eye. For example, Hall Green is home to one of only two remaining watermills in Birmingham at Sarehole Mill. J.R.R. Tolkien used to play around the Mill as a boy - the house where he lived is in Wake Green Road - and the place must have inspired many of his tales. Hall Green is also the birthplace of comedian Tony Hancock.
