Andover was the centre of the Saxon 'parliament' and ever since King Edred, the 'weak-in-the-feet' 10th century King of England, built a hunting lodge here there has been a settlement. Watermills have played an important part in Andover's history - in the Doomsday book in 1086 it is mention that the town had 11 mills. Today Rooksbury Mill is one of the few remaining in the UK; since the milling industry ceased in the early twentieth century the mill has had various uses including that of being used as a small theatre. The members of the famous 60s rock band The Troggs, whose hits include 'Wild Thing' and 'Love is All Around’, were born here.
