Faith with Lorraine Pascale feature

A big thank you from Domino's

You pizza lovers are a generous bunch, but then we already knew that! In the last three years, you have really proven it by rounding up your orders to the nearest pound via Pennies an incredible 3 million times. By doing this you have also kick-started the Pennies movement.

In November 2010, Domino’s was the first company to pop their head above the parapet and offer Pennies, the electronic charity box, to their customers. Since then, you have had the opportunity to donate a few pence to charity when paying by card online and, more recently, via their mobile apps.

Your most popular donation is just 1p, and if ever there was any doubt in the power of pennies, you have smashed that away. Those donations have now topped £700,000, which is making a real difference to a number of charities.

For example, your donations have helped Special Olympics GB, the charity that provides sports coaching and competitions all year round for people with intellectual disabilities. This summer, 1,700 Special Olympics athletes took part in the national games in Bath. Your donations have also helped Special Olympics athletes to gain leadership qualifications and reach their potential both on and off the field of play.

Rays of Sunshine became the latest charity to benefit in May, and you have already generated nearly £70,000 for their work granting wishes to terminally ill children. In fact, your donations have generated enough pennies to grant the equivalent of a wish every day. This includes granting wishes to children like baking fan Faith, who suffers from kidney failure; her condition entails three four-hour sessions of dialysis every week.

This year, Rays of Sunshine fulfilled Faith’s wish to cook with their ambassador Lorraine Pascale. Having travelled by limousine to Caffè Caldesi in London with her aunt and brother, Faith learnt how to make red velvet cupcakes and a Swiss roll with Lorraine’s help. They made sure not to use salt or chocolate, which Faith must avoid due to her condition.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the difference your pennies are making every day. Thanks to Domino’s and to you, their customers, the Pennies movement is now flying, available with over 50 companies and benefiting more than 75 charities. This is something we simply couldn’t have done without you being the first people to press that ‘donate’ button.  Thank you! Together we really can make a difference – just imagine how many people your donations could help over the next three years. Cheers!
